Job Summary/Basic Function

The Associate Athletic Trainer will report to the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine. The position will supervise and coordinate athletic training services for student-athletes in intercollegiate athletic programs – primarily men’s basketball.

Essential duties include but are not be limited to: assist with the prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, physician referral, and medical documentation of all injuries associated with assigned student athletes; communicate with coaches, student athletes, parents, staff and physicians within NATA and HIPAA guidelines; observe all athletic policy and procedures in accordance with NATA regulations as well as NCAA, Conference USA and MTSU rules and remain certified to perform these duties on a daily basis. Coordinate Concussion testing and baseline testing for all assigned student athletes; provide supervision of daily practice and game coverage, in season travel, and summer sports workout coverage for assigned student athletes as permitted by NCAA legislation. Required to be flexible and adapt to schedule changes as necessary. Serve as an approved preceptor within the CAATE accredited graduate athletic training program. Provide direct supervision of intern athletic trainers for assigned sports and graduate athletic training students in the athletic training education program; instruct these students in professional prevention, care and rehabilitation of assigned student-athletes as well as the certification and licensure process. Required to attend national NATA and Conference USA meetings and/or conventions to remain current in their field for changes that occur; Will comply with NCAA, CAATE and NATA legislation and immediately report any known violations of any of these rules to the Compliance office and submit all required documentation to the Compliance office immediately. Serve as the Sports Medicine Marketing and Media supervisor to develop and oversee information on the University website including information shared with parents, student athletes and coaches necessary to promote the Sports Medicine program; The Associate Athletic Trainer will secure information related to the international insurance program and insurance co-payment for all assigned student-athletes; assist with coordination of the drug testing / educational program for all student-athletes, and perform other related tasks or special projects as assigned.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree required. Master's Degree preferred.

Required Related Experience

One year of progressively responsible, relevant collegiate and/or clinical athletic training experience. Experience as a Graduate Assistant will be accepted.

Required License/Registration/Certification

NATA BOC certification and Tennessee State Licensure or eligible for Tennessee State Licensure.
Knowledge of NCAA, CUSA & NATABOC rules and regulations required.
CPR, AED, First Aid Certification required.

Desirable Related Experience

Two (2) to Four (4) years of progressively responsible Division I Athletic Training experience with men’s basketball preferred.

Desirable License/Registration/Certification

CES, CSCS, PES, Dry Needling Preferred
