Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#130100) in stage management at the rank of lecturer. This is a one-year temporary appointment. The contract may be renewed annually based on available funding, demonstrated need, and satisfactory performance as assessed by annual evaluations. The appointment start date is August 1, 2026.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching stage management, advanced stage management, script analysis, discovering drama, and introduction to theatre. The successful candidate will serve as a supervisor and mentor to student stage managers during the theatre and dance production season each year. Additional opportunities for stage management, instruction, and assistance with the production season may be available.

Required Education

A Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in theatre or a closely related field is required. A bachelor’s degree in theatre or a closely related field with two (2) years of directly related industry experience in stage management may be considered in lieu of an MFA.

Other Desirables

Applicants with previous university teaching experience and those with a secondary focus in scenic/properties design and/or directing will receive special consideration.
