Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Media Arts at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#144190) at the rank of lecturer in Video and Film Production. This is a one-year temporary appointment. The contract may be renewed annually, subject to available funding, demonstrated need, and satisfactory performance as assessed through annual evaluations. The appointment start date is August 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will teach a combination of multi-camera television production classes, both in the studio and on location. In addition, the successful candidate will teach equipment operation, various crew production roles, and aspects of program crewing, creation, producing, and directing. Class projects may include, but are not limited to, live sports TV production, studio and on-location TV music concerts and live events, and various studio-based programs. This faculty member needs a mixture of technical knowledge and program creative creation knowledge and experience. The successful candidate will teach a wide range of aspects of video and film production, including, but not limited to, preproduction, production, and postproduction of video technologies, as well as aesthetics, history, and theory.

Required Education

A terminal degree in film and video production or a closely related field is required by the appointment date. A master's degree with three (3) years of full-time or part-time, consistent freelance professional experience or a bachelor's degree with five (5) years of full-time or part-time, consistent freelance professional experience will be accepted in lieu of a terminal degree.

To receive credit for equivalent full-time, project-based work, applicants must list each project, including the project's length, individually on their CVs (résumés).

Other Desirables

Applicants with experience in live production, technical hardware and software, and operational knowledge of switchers, graphics, LED, and systems will receive special consideration.

  • Credit list and production roles in multi-camera television or live video production.
  • Video links (minimum of five) of projects demonstrating the role the applicant has performed. Before each link, a brief description that clearly identifies the project's name and the applicant's role in it must be included.
