Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Aerospace at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for two full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty positions (#101230 and #101240) at the rank of lecturer. The contracts may be renewed based on available funding, demonstrated need, and satisfactory performance as assessed by annual evaluations. The start date for the appointments is August 1, 2026.

Successful candidates will teach core and concentration-specific aerospace courses, depending on qualifications. Instruction may occur in traditional classrooms, laboratories, online formats, airport facilities, and other off-campus locations. We seek educators who are enthusiastic about teaching and mentoring students in a dynamic, hands-on learning environment.

Required Education

A master’s degree in aerospace, aviation, engineering, management, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.

Required Related Experience

One (1) year of civilian or military aviation or aerospace experience is required.

Required License/Registration/Certification

One of the following is required:

  • FAA certificate in any aviation or aerospace field.
  • Aviation management certification (e.g., AAAE-CM).
  • Other relevant aviation or industry-related certification.

Other Desirables

Applicants with the following will receive special consideration:

  • Three (3) years of progressively advancing aviation or aerospace (civilian work or military) experience, including areas such as
    • Operations management.
    • Flight operations or flight crew experience.
    • Aviation maintenance.
    • Data science or analytics.
  • Prior university-level teaching experience or formal training in the civilian aviation industry or the military.

Assist with preparation and distribution of routine reports to coaches and athletic staff; and generate reports and correspondence as requested. Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Coordinator - Ground Operations

This position reports directly to the Manager of Ground Operations. Coordinate scheduling and dispatching of aircraft used by the MTSU Flight School, including tracking aircraft maintenance events, invoicing, and training activities. Additionally, assist with ramp services, including driving the fuel truck, fueling aircraft, assisting with the deicing, moving aircraft, and preparing aircraft for departure. Supervise part-time flight dispatcher/line service student workers. Perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned.
