Job Summary/Basic Function
The Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Program at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#120030) at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026.
We seek an enthusiastic and dedicated colleague with a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate education to join our dynamic program. The successful candidate will be highly engaged in research and community service, and pursue interdisciplinary collaboration with potential for external funding and contracts. We seek a candidate with a collaborative, engaged, student-centered approach to performance and responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching foundational courses at the undergraduate level and other courses related to the field, such as:
- Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism
- Neurogenic Communication Disorders
- Dysphagia
- Supervision of undergraduate honors research projects and undergraduate student clinicians.
- Advising.
- Public and university service.
- Research and grant writing.
Required Education
A terminal degree in speech-language pathology or a closely related field, such as communication sciences and disorders, neuroscience, hearing science, linguistics, health, and psychology, is required by the appointment date.
Required License/Registration/Certification
Applicants must hold or be eligible for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and TN state licensure by the appointment date.
Other Desirables
Applicants with the following will receive special consideration:
- Experience or research focused on adult disorders and therapies.
- Expertise in aphasia, traumatic brain injury, dysphagia, and related neurogenic communication disorders.
- Experience in clinical supervision and intervention with linguistically and culturally diverse populations.
- Demonstrated evidence or strong potential for securing external research or community engagement funding.
