Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Social Work at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#168090) at the rank of assistant or associate professor. As an R2 university, MTSU values teaching, research, and service. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026.
The successful candidate will be highly engaged in research and community service, and pursue interdisciplinary collaboration with potential for external funding and contracts. The department expects a collaborative, engaged, student-centered approach to performance and responsibilities. Required Education
A terminal degree (PhD, DSW, or equivalent) in social work AND a Master of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program are required by the appointment date.
Required Related Experience
An equivalent of two (2) years of post-master's clinical social work practice paid or volunteer experience is required. The applicant must clearly identify their post-master's social work practice experience in the curriculum vitae, which may include practice with individuals, families, or groups. Applicants should include specific dates (month and year) and indicate full-time or part-time on the curriculum vitae to document the required work experience.
Required License/Registration/Certification
Licensed or license-eligible at the Master of Social Work level is required by the appointment date.
Other Desirables
Applicants with clinical practice and research experience in areas of social work such as military and veterans, children and families, trauma, older adults, or integrated behavioral and physical health and wellness, positive aging and age-friendly communities, within an interdisciplinary perspective and scope will receive special consideration. In addition, applicants with at least one (1) year of experience teaching in a higher education setting will receive special consideration.
