Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Biology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#103460) in Biology Education at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025.
We are looking for individuals with scholarly expertise in the broad focal areas of disciplinary-based biology education research or science education research, with a strong foundation in biology content. Applicants with disciplinary expertise in any area of biology are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research:
- Pursue an active research agenda with demonstrated independence in thinking and the ability to work across disciplines.
- Develop a strong, extramurally funded, and collaborative research program in biology education research or science education research.
- Mentorship: Mentor doctoral students in completing dissertation projects in the biology education research focal area of the Mathematics and Sciences Education PhD Program.
- Curriculum Development and Teaching: Teach undergraduate courses in biology and graduate courses in education research, aligned with the successful candidate’s area of expertise.
Required Education
A terminal degree in biology education, biology, or science education with at least 18 graduate-level course hours is required by the appointment date.
Other Desirables
Applicants with the following will receive special consideration.
- Record of or potential to publish high-quality work in the field of biology education.
- Record of or potential to attract external funding.
- Evidence of implementation of research-based, high-quality teaching.
- Disciplinary expertise and experience in either animal physiology or botany.
