Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of English at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for eight full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty positions (#123030, #123120, #123125, #123340, #123420, #123530, #123570, and #123600) at the rank of lecturer. These are one-year temporary appointments with possible annual renewal for up to three years. The start date for the appointments is August 1, 2024.

Successful candidates will teach courses such as first-year writing and general education literature as needed to satisfy a full-time teaching workload every year.

Required Education

Applicants are required to have one of the following three degrees by the appointment date:

  • Master of Arts in any of the following disciplines: English, linguistics, rhetoric/composition, or professional/technical writing
  • Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing
  • Master of Arts in a closely related field with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate coursework with prefixes in English, linguistics, or technical writing

Other Desirables

Applicants who possess any or all of the following will receive special consideration.

  • PhD or DA in English, linguistics, rhetoric/composition, or professional/technical writing
  • two or more years of full-time experience teaching college-level writing classes
  • experience teaching general education English classes in a blended format
  • experience teaching developmental English courses
