Assistant Director - Executive Air Transportation/Chief Pilot Murfreesboro, Tennessee
The Assistant Director of Executive Air Transportation/Chief Pilot is responsible for directing all operational aspects of MTSU Executive Air Transportation services to support the transportation needs of the University. Reporting to the Director of Aerospace – Airport Operations, this position ensures strict compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards, manages flight operations, and leads flight crewmembers to include preparation of annual performance evaluations. Oversees executive air transportation aircraft to include piloting, crew scheduling, route planning, and arranging/overseeing trip details and passenger needs. Administers the Executive Air Transportation budget and billing. Arranges for completion of all scheduled/unscheduled aircraft maintenance. Maintains all required FAA and Departmental personnel, training, aircraft, and other records. Promotes the availability of air transportation services to the University community. Additionally, this role is actively engaged in the MTSU Professional Pilot training program. In close coordination with Flight Training Management, duties include developing and administering practicum experiences in air carrier operations, high-performance aircraft flight labs, and implementing/routinely revising ground and flight training curricula, training materials, and methods/objectives. Teaches aerospace coursework, preparing students to achieve required proficiency. Actively participates in programs promoting recruitment and retention efforts within the MTSU Professional Pilot concentration and supporting activities related to the department’s mission and safety program. Other duties, as assigned. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, operational expertise, a commitment to safety and customer service, and a passion for education.
Director - Aerospace Safety Murfreesboro, Tennessee
The Director of Aerospace Safety serves as the principal advocate and leader for aerospace safety within the MTSU Department of Aerospace. Reporting to the Dean, and collaborating closely with the Department Chair and Director of Aerospace Operations, this position provides strategic leadership and oversight of all safety programs, including the continuous development, implementation, and evaluation of the department's Safety Management System (SMS) and Safety Management Program (SMP). This role is responsible for establishing safety policies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the department. The Director leads safety councils for faculty and staff, flight instructors, and students, fostering engagement and collaborative safety practices across all stakeholder groups. As the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters, the Director promotes a culture of safety awareness and accountability. The position monitors safety performance trends and leads the collection, analysis, and reporting of safety data to support proactive risk identification and data-informed decision-making. The Director evaluates key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess program effectiveness and guide continuous enhancement of safety initiatives. Additionally, the Director works cooperatively with other MTSU Safety Programs, the FAA, airport authorities, MTSU Airport Operations, Flight School staff, and Aerospace faculty to foster a proactive safety culture that ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and promotes operational excellence.
