Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Engineering Technology at Middle Tennessee State University invites distinguished applicants for Chairholder of The Robert E. and Georgianna West Russell Chair of Manufacturing Excellence (#021010). This is a 9-month full-time, tenure-track appointment with expedited tenure considered. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025.
The Russell Chair of Manufacturing Excellence was established in 1988 and has earned national recognition for excellence in its commitment to enhancing manufacturing quality while supporting existing manufacturing concerns and attracting new manufacturing activity to the Middle Tennessee region. The successful candidate is expected to have a demonstrated interest and commitment to teaching excellence, an established record of scholarship and externally funded research, and evidence of commitment to public service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Continuous enhancement of the engineering/technology programs.
- Provide leadership in research and development, especially in areas involving the local industry.
- Attract external funding for research and involvement with the local industry.
- Active involvement with faculty members in industry programs in grant writing, collaboration in research, and outreach to the local industry.
- Underscore Middle Tennessee State University as the institution of choice for those wishing to pursue excellence in manufacturing.
The position requires a demonstrated interest and commitment to teaching excellence, an established record of externally funded research, and evidence of a commitment to public service. The successful candidate will engage with faculty and students while spearheading the department’s outreach to industry partners in developing mutually beneficial endeavors AND will develop a strong externally-funded research program.
Required Education
A terminal degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, electrical engineering mechatronics engineering, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
Other Desirables
Candidates who have at least five (5) years of post-graduate academic accomplishments with a proven track record of externally funded research and some experience working with industry will receive special consideration.
