Job Summary/Basic Function

The Data Science Program at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#457010) at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2024.

The MTSU Data Science Program comprises three academic programs and the Data Science Institute. The academic programs offer degrees at all levels (BS, MS, and PhD), while the Data Science Institute offers students opportunities in data science research and internships. The academic programs are interdisciplinary. Housed directly in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, the programs involve collaboration between departments, including Computer Science, Mathematical Sciences, Economics and Finance, and Information Systems and Analytics. The successful candidate will have demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching, sustainable research, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Responsibilities include teaching data science or related courses at all levels, advising and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, researching and conducting scholarly activities, and serving the program, university, and community.

Required Education

A terminal degree in data science, applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.

Other Desirables

Applicants working in theoretical foundations of data science will receive special consideration.
