Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#210050) at the rank of Lecturer in Dance. This is a one year appointment with possible annual renewal for up to three years total. Start date for the position is August 1, 2021. Position contingent upon funding.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching African/African diaspora, indigenous and/or global dance forms in a contemporary dance-training context. Studio courses will include African diaspora influence on jazz dance techniques, as well as courses in the instructor's specialty area. This position will also teach historical/theoretical coursework for both dance majors and general education students and will contribute to broadening the practical and theoretical frameworks for dance as a field of academic study. Position requires the ability to teach all levels of majors and minors, focused on training in a broad range of dance practices, as well as general education students. This position will also regularly choreograph for MTSU's Dance Theatre's fall and spring semester concerts, produced as part of our Department of Theatre and Dance co-curricular season.
A terminal degree in Dance or related discipline is required by appointment date
Applicants that have experience teaching dance majors and minors in an undergraduate dance program; demonstrated ability to teach both practical and theoretical coursework including critical dance studies; and/or professional performance and choreography experience will receive special consideration.
