Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Aerospace at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach Aerospace and the UAS Operations concentration classes, undertake collaborative and multidisciplinary research within the department and university, and be actively involved in university and professional service. The successful UAS Operations candidate will be required to teach classes in traditional on-campus classrooms, UAS Operations Lab, online, and off-campus outdoor locations.
Required Education
A terminal degree in aerospace, aviation, management, or a closely related field, or a terminal degree in any field with a master's degree in aerospace, aviation, management, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date. Applicants with a master’s degree in aerospace, aviation, management, or a closely related field with four (4) years of full-time aerospace industry or military UAS work experience will be considered in lieu of a terminal degree.
Required Related Experience
Two (2) years of civilian or military UAS experience is required.
Required License/Registration/Certification
An FAA Remote Pilot certificate is required.
Other Desirables
Applicants with five (5) years of civilian UAS experience, which includes flight operations, maintenance, data collection, and interpretation, will receive special consideration. In addition, those with an FAA Private Pilot certificate with an instrument rating or an FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate and those with prior university teaching or aviation industry training experience will receive special consideration.
