Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Engineering Technology at Middle Tennessee State University invites distinguished applicants for Chairholder of The Robert E. and Georgianna West Russell Chair of Manufacturing Excellence (#021010). This is a 12-month full-time, tenure-track appointment with expedited tenure considered. The start date for the position is August 1, 2022.

The Russell Chair of Manufacturing Excellence was established in 1988 and has earned national recognition for excellence in its commitment to enhancing the quality of manufacturing while it supports existing manufacturing concerns and attracts new manufacturing activity to the Middle Tennessee region. Objectives of the position include:

  • Continuous enhancement of the engineering/technology programs,
  • Development and maintenance of adequately diversified areas of study to ensure a multidimensional student body in terms of experience, interest, and abilities,
  • Active involvement of faculty members in industry programs to ensure the continuous improvement of the cutting-edge skills, relevance, and immediacy of the materials they impart to the student body,
  • Underscore Middle Tennessee State University as the institution of choice for those wishing to pursue excellence in manufacturing.

The position requires a demonstrated interest and commitment to teaching excellence, an established record of externally funded research, and evidence of a commitment to public service. The successful candidate will engage faculty and students while spearheading the department’s outreach to industry partners in developing mutually beneficial endeavors AND will develop a strong externally-funded research program.

Required Education

A terminal degree in engineering or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.

Other Desirables

Candidates who have at least ten (10) years of post-graduate academic and some industry experience will receive special consideration.
