Job Summary/Basic Function

The Associate Vice Provost for International Affairs (AVP) reports to the Vice Provost (VP) for International Affairs. As such, the AVP works directly with the VP to provide visionary, strategic, innovative, flexible, and change-oriented leadership for many of Middle Tennessee State University’s (MTSU) international activities. For instance, the AVP promotes, facilitates, and supports MTSU’s almost 100 global partnerships. The AVP fosters international student recruitment, yield and retention; manages and ensures compliance for exchange and collaborative degree programs; and develops academic endeavors that expand our global curriculum. The AVP collaborates with central University units connected to International Affairs, including Student Affairs, Financial Aid, Registrar, Bursar, the Student Disability and Access Center, the Office of the University Counsel, etc. They lead initiatives that foster outside support, including grant writing and entrepreneurial activities. The AVP supervises critical staff in International Affairs while working with faculty, administrators, staff, and students across the University to promote and implement our strategic plan. The AVP provides oversight and implementation of unit and campus policies and procedures. They support the harmonization of key policies and best practices across units within the division. As the deputy to the VP, the AVP may support any of the wide-ranging functions of the Office.

Required Education

PhD or other terminal degree

Required Related Experience

1. Ten years of progressively responsible experience in higher education
2. Three years of leadership at the level of director or higher

Desirable Related Experience

1. Demonstrated experience in securing and administering external grants
2. Demonstrated experience with international, entrepreneurial activities
3. Demonstrated experience working with people from diverse, international backgrounds

Desirable License/Registration/Certification

Valid passport and ability to be lawfully issued foreign visas needed for travel.
