Job Summary/Basic Function
The Lieutenant Investigations directs, coordinates, supervises, and monitors all tasks performed by officers assigned to the Investigative Services Crime Suppression Unit. Essential duties include: coordination, review, and participation in active criminal interdiction activities and methods; data gathering; intelligence gathering; intelligence analysis; canine planning, training, maintenance and support; and oversight for all Crime Suppression Unit activities. Additional duties include participation and investigation of criminal cases, supervision of special police responses as required by criminal actions, direct actions as needed at crime scenes, and, as necessary, assist with management of the patrol component. Must also be able to serve in the capacity of a Police Officer qualified to carry firearms; patrol the campus community; testify in court proceedings; maintain accurate records; operate and maintain law enforcement equipment; enforce all university, state, local and federal laws; and respond to emergency situations.
High school diploma or high school equivalency (HSE).
Required Related Experience
Eight (8) years experience as a certified Law Enforcement officer; two (2) years experience in a Law Enforcement Leadership Role.
Current Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification in the State of Tennessee. Driver's license required.
Desirable Related Experience
Teaching experience in law enforcement preferred; supervisory experience preferred.
Advanced Supervisory Training preferred; Competency Training preferred; Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) certification preferred; P.O.S.T. Instructor Certification preferred.
