Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of University Studies at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position at the rank of Lecturer for Reading. This is a one year temporary position with possible annual renewal for up to three years total. Start date for the position is August 1, 2021. Position contingent upon funding.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a full load of primarily reading sections per semester, provide meeting times for students, and manage grades. The successful candidate is expected to have the ability to teach upper level research courses. The teaching workload requires teaching on site, online, and hybrid sections using MTSU's course management system. Candidates should also be available to teach evening classes if needed. Individuals will be expected to work with students of varying abilities; to submit retention reports; engage in academic progress reports, and document student learning outcomes according to prescribed methods.

The Successful candidate is expected to possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

-Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques for teaching.

-Skilled in the use of computers, internet resources, and MS Office Software.

-Ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students in the field of study.

-Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.

-Ability to successfully interact professionally with students, other educators, educational institution representatives, and the general public.

-Ability to communicate effectively  in writing and verbally.

-Ability and willingness to learn all software specific to Middle Tennessee State University that is required to perform duties.

Required Education

Master's Degree in Reading or Literacy Studies or related field

Other Desirables

Applicants with full-time teaching experience at the secondary and post-secondary level will receive special consideration.
