Job Summary/Basic Function
Middle Tennessee State University's Department of Art and Design invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#122170) at the rank of assistant/associate professor in Studio Art (Ceramics). Start date for the position is August 1, 2021. Position contingent upon funding.
The successful candidate must be committed to teaching perceptual, technical and conceptual development in both functional and sculptural ceramics. Candidate is expected to be fluent in traditional methods of ceramics while cultivating engagement with new and emerging technologies. Teaching hand-building and throwing will be required, as well as the instruction of upper division students of various disciplines. Applicants should have a strong artistic/design aesthetic, unique approach, and professional portfolio.
The successful candidate must have the ability to develop and teach a wide variety of undergraduate courses in the curriculum from entry level to advanced. Responsibilities, in addition to teaching include, but are not limited to: curriculum development within the Studio Art program, student advising, maintenance of ceramic facilities, supervision of student workers, grant writing, committee work, admissions outreach, and enthusiasm for planning and participating in department programming activities. Knowledge and execution of pertinent health and safety issues related to a high traffic ceramics studio are required.

MFA with Studio Art emphasis in Ceramics OR an MFA with a Studio Art emphasis in Sculpture along with a bachelor's degree (BA/BS/BFA) with a Ceramics emphasis by appointment date.
Candidates who possess at least two (2) years full-time teaching experience in Ceramics, Sculpture, or 3D Studio Art will receive special consideration.
Candidates with a record of strong professional accomplishments will also receive special consideration.
