Job Summary/Basic Function
Middle Tennessee State University, Department of Womack Educational Leadership, invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant/associate professor in Library Science. Start date for the position is August 1, 2021. Position contingent upon funding.
The Master of Library Science program is taught completely online. This position requires regular and predictable availability to online students both in class and office hours. The posted online office hours should be the same number of hours as required of teaching on-campus courses. The person hired must be a resident of the state of Tennessee by the appointment date. Prior to beginning the teaching of online courses, the faculty must receive the appropriate online training and/or certification to teach MTSU online classes.
Faculty hired into this position may be assigned instructional responsibilities in other areas of the College of Education, if needed.
Curriculum responsibilities include teaching and developing graduate level, distance-education courses in Librarianship and Information Literacy. The candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and the community.
The successful candidate will advise students, develop curriculum, promote program growth and diversity initiatives, supervise field experiences, complete program assessments, and assist in the groundwork for achieving American Library Association (ALA) accreditation and maintenance of NCATE/CAEP accreditation.
Collaborative and multi-disciplinary research within the department and university is required with a strong knowledge of current research and best practices in the field of expertise. The candidate must be actively involved in university and professional service.
Terminal degree in Library Science or related field.
Required Related Experience
Professional work experience equivalent to at least three (3) years of full-time work in academic, special, or public library.
Candidates experienced with digital resources, user services, or library management will be given special consideration. Likewise, those with teaching experience in preparation of the Library Media Specialist licensure process and School Librarianship and CAEP/NCATE knowledge are desirable.
Candidates who possess a PhD in Library Science or closely related discipline (completed or in progress) will receive special consideration as well as those with broad experience across library types and functions within libraries and those with three (3) years teaching graduate courses at the university level.
